Marketing today isn’t just about posting on social media or having a nice looking website, it’s about creating content that builds trust, improves visibility, and connects you with the right audience. That’s where strategic blogging, SEO fundamentals, and smart keyword research come in.
In this blog, we’ll explore why writing blogs for your brand matters, the common marketing mistakes business owners make and how to fix them, and how you can use free tools to find the keywords your ideal customers are already searching for.
These aren’t just marketing tasks, they are powerful opportunities to grow your authority, increase organic traffic, and attract more of the right people to your business. Let’s dive in.
Why Writing Blogs for Your Brand is Important
You may be surprised to learn that 70–80% of people still read blogs online, proving that blogs haven’t lost their relevance, even in an age dominated by AI-generated content and automated tools. Blogs continue to attract engagement because people crave authenticity, personal stories, and real expertise. While I fully embrace AI tools and the efficiencies they offer, I believe there is huge value in bringing back the personal touch that defined the blogging boom of the early 2000s. When you write your own authentic content, you not only build trust with your audience and potential clients, you also strengthen your authority in search engines like Google.
To illustrate this, In this video I looked at the brand Alyve, a company that produces personalised supplements. After using the SEO tool Ahrefs to analyse their online performance, I discovered something interesting: among their backlinks, which are a list of sites that mention and link to their brand, one link stood out. The link didn't point directly to their homepage or a product page. Instead, it linked to a blog article they wrote. The article appeared on a website with a domain rating of 22, and despite not being directly related to Alyve’s products, it boosted their authority because it provided relevant, valuable content.
This example shows the power blogs still hold. If that blog post hadn’t existed, the brand wouldn’t have earned that backlink. Blogs continue to open doors to organic visibility and brand authority something AI alone can’t replicate.
Common Marketing Mistakes and How to Fix Them
One of the most common mistakes I see people make on their website involves something surprisingly simple: title tags and meta descriptions. If those terms sound like confusing jargon, don’t worry you’re not alone.
Title tags and meta descriptions are snippets of text that appear in search results, and they play a critical role in how your website is understood by both users and search engines.

For example, on my own website, the blue text you see in the search results is the title tag, which tells visitors and Google what the page is about and highlights important keywords. Just below it is the meta description, a short summary that gives potential visitors a clearer idea of what they’ll find on the page.
If your pages are missing these elements, you’re leaving valuable opportunities on the table. Filling in your title tags and meta descriptions can significantly improve your visibility and help search engines and your audience understand exactly what you offer.
How To Do Keyword Research Using Free Tools
Now, let’s talk about keyword research. This is a key step of making sure your content reaches the right audience. Simply put, keyword research is the process of discovering what people type into search engines when they’re looking for specific products, services, or information. If you’re a business owner offering services or selling products, understanding what your potential customers are searching for can make a huge difference in your visibility.
The easiest place to start is Google itself. Type in a phrase related to what you offer for example, “Yoga Studio Manchester” and pay attention to the related searches and suggestions that appear. These give you insight into what people are actively searching for. You can also look at the top-ranking websites for that keyword to get a sense of who your competitors are and what type of content is performing well.
Another useful tool is Ahrefs, which offers both free and paid versions for its SEO tool. It shows related keywords, search volumes, and other valuable data you can use to guide your content strategy. And finally, Google Trends can help you see how search interest for a keyword rises or falls over time, so you can spot seasonal trends or increasing demand. With these free tools, keyword research becomes accessible and a powerful foundation for improving your online presence.
